I'm a bit baffled at the antipathy shown by Alan and some other posters on this board toward any effort to go against the conventional wisdom and try something different. I would expect an online community of radio lovers to welcome new and different sounds.
Instead a lot of comments on this board sound like the bean-counter analysis that has made radio boring and driven music listeners away: If you're going after this demo you can't play that song... Those two artists don't belong on the same station... You can't mix new and old and expect to keep listeners... If you don't fit in a given format pigeonhole you can't succeed...
I can't disagree with Alan's facts about past failures of rock formats, competition with suburban stations, etc. And it's too early to tell whether RXP will be interesting and different enough to stand out and be noticed. But why dismiss it out of hand?
