"Where is the Audience?" This is something I've been asking myself during the time which I have sampled the station. From what I've observed, 101.9 is playing mainly 80's-90's rock. I may be wrong, but it sounds like the station is trying to appeal to 18-34 year old men. With that being said I'm not to sure what Emmis hopes to prove with this format. K-Rock has a similar format and it's doing poorly. Plus we all know how bad Jack-FM as a rock station did. And Q-104 has no true rock competitor as it appeals to the upper end of the 25-54 demo. So what makes Emmis think that this format will work? Let's face it, Smooth Jazz on 101.9 had to go. It has not been getting it done ratings wise. I found WQCD to be very bland and boring. I often joked that CD 101.9 should not be listened to while operating machinery or driving a car. With that being said, Emmis did the right thing by flipping the station. But flipping to another 80's-90's rock format? The jury is still out on how sucessful this format will be.
