Similar experience back in the late 70's: Just starting newscast on the ABC Contemporary Net on - probably - a Saturday morning. Through the glass were engineer Clark Ranger and a Director whose name escapes me. I am chattering away when - through the glass - I see flames on a table behind both gentlemen in the Control Room. A small immersion heater had fallen out of a coffee mug and set fire to a stack of napkins! While still chattering, I wildly gesticulated to the gentlemen on the other side of the glass until the Director (Dang! Wish I could remember his name!)scrambled up and poured his coffee on the fire. Emergency over. Newscast finished. Oy! -30-
