I can't tell you the differences between the two without spending a lot of time listening to L.A. radio. What I can say is that technology shifts don't necessarily occur evenly across all markets. For example, WLS-AM stayed with music in Chicago long after WABC gave it up as the music audience shifted to FM. And, maybe, the competition for the demo is more difficult in New York than L.A.
But I'll reiterate... there's more going on here than debating what 'KTU is doing or other playlist discussions. That's 1990's thinking in 2009. Now is not that flawed.
