I appreciate your points, Allan. And overall I think they're right on. As technology advances, it's very possible the relevance of radio as a medium will continue to diminish.

But specifically to this situation, do you think that this is evidence of a more of a seismic shift, or is it a 92.3 NOW problem? AMP seems to be doing relatively well out in LA. However, in NY, Z100 and KTU (and maybe even Hot 97 and Power 105) are pretty formidable competitors. They have not left much room there for NOW.

And, what is "more?" More personality? More what? If you are already an iPod devotee, you probably are not really all that interested in idle chatter and long stop sets. What will radio give me that is so compelling, that I am willing to put down the iPod? News? Weather? Guess what? My iPod is also connected to the Internet. I can get all of the news and information I need without missing a beat.

It's not all that bad. There are still a lot of people who can't be bothered with an iPod. They'd rather flip a switch on and hear news or music or whatever on AM/FM/SAT. Another problem facing the iPod is getting younger people to actually PAY for the music they are downloading...but that's another thread.
