A couple I know through an organization I belong to recently discovered "Pandora." They refer to it as a "life changing experience" for them (their actual words.) Because of this, they were motivated to go online and buy wireless speakers so they can listen to their favorite "virtual" radio stations throughout the house. They're in their 60s! Younger people are obviously way ahead on this curve.
When it comes to music, I truly believe that the *only* thing propping up terrestrial radio today is convenience. When digital wireless becomes ubiquitous, and that won't take anywhere near as long as twenty years, the only way I can see music being sustainable is as some form of personality driven music/talk format, along the lines of Mark Simone's Saturday night show, and probably including regular live band performances.
