Mostly established stations with a brand in their markets. It's easier to hold your place once everyone knows you're there. It's another to launch something new. As far as the PPM's go, that's methodology that's helping some formats over others. Nothing really changed other than the way we quantify the numbers.

How many new CHR's have come on? Yes, I understand that Amp is doing better and that's certainly a solid counterargument to what I'm suggesting. Yet I still believe that alternative technologies are taking a chunk of listeners away from radio... particularly younger listeners. If that's a trend, it will have a big impact on FM music radio programming as they age and continue to listen to technologies other than radio.
BTW: I'm not suggesting this is hopeless. Instead I'm arguing for music radio programming to do more than worry about its playlist. The personalities have to be relevant and strong and the immediacy that radio can offer has to be ramped up.
