Let me try to be more clear here.

For what I'm going to attempt to do here, I'm not looking into Z-100 or the New York market for this. I'm not even talking about seeking dance music formats. All I am merely suggesting is adding 2 or 3 dance tracks onto a Top 40/CHR playlist. Whoever does it would be a good thing for any given market.

Okay, you worked at K-104 (WSPK) way back so you would know about Top 40 in that sense. I think you can agree that Top 40 radio is about the hottest contemporary music geared to a young audience (18-34 or 49) in a given market. Today, you have a lot of rhythmic music, hip-hop, pop, and in some cases outside of NYC, country. A lot of these musical genres can do well on their own formats yet they are also the most popular material out there and fall under CHR.

Dance IS actually a part of that when you consider that Cascada "Evacuate The Dancefloor" is on the playlist on most stations. Pitbull may be hybrid dance/hip-hop but he's accepted. Kim Sozzi has some success going with "Feel Your Love". Kelly Rowland had great success teaming with David Guetta on "When Love Takes Over". All I am suggesting is adding maybe 2 or 3 tracks...and it would be the strong material that can be commercial friendly and acceptable to such a station without sacrificing the almighty demos, ad dollars, etc.

One example of such a track (and I know many of you here aren't dance fans so you'll just have to trust me on this), is AnnaGrace "Let The Feelings Go", a high energy dance track that has the commercial appeal going for it, as long as it gets that exposure. Kaci Battaglia's "Crazy Possessive" is another track that can work on CHR.

As I have said, I'm not looking at New York City on this. I'm going to start hitting up other markets for that. Dance music needs more exposure, plain and simple and the music shouldn't have to be just relegated to "Saturday Night Dance Parties" and "Open House Parties". It's more than that.

We're lucky in the NYC area, for now, to have a Pulse 87, Party 105 and to a smaller extent, a 'KTU. So no, it wouldn't make sense for Z-100 to put dance there, especially with the fact that their sister station (KTU) is on their "brand".

Believe me, when things happen the coalition will be ready to act on our next moves. But for now, dance has to get further exposure in this country and to that, it has to take small, conservative steps to do so. So in that sense, I'm not pushing for more dance music stations, at least not directly anyway. It's just a matter of more exposure. In that sense, the material that comes off strong should get the Top 40/CHR nod. And nothing radical...just 2 or 3 more tracks than what is currently on.
