The WSHU "fix" for classical music in Suffolk county is only temporary.
WSHU's 91.7 translator will be replaced by a full power station based in Riverhead/Westhampton area. There are six applications pending at the FCC.
And more significantly, WSHR, Lake Ronkonkoma, which runs 6 kW on 91.9 does currently impact the 91.7 translator at Ridge
Hamptonites are lucky because WRLI 91.3 with 10kW at Southampton, rebroadcasts Connecticut Public Broadcasting's classical format.
A note to those of you who compare coverage maps from the FCC. Commercial stations generally show the 54 dBu coverage, while NCEs show a 60 dBu coverage. Apples and oranges. And the map doesn't tell you which. Further, the stations' own coverage maps seem optimistic to me.
