To the west of here, where both work and personal life often take me, Clear Channel has purchased two class-A *FM* stations in recent years.

The former Oldies WISL FM in Shamokin (95.3) is now a simulcast of Country WBLJ (calls?) on 95.5 Williamsport ('Bill FM' in Williamsport -- sweet). Word was that the two were close enough on the dial to boost overall ratings for when the Williamsport book came out, and to compete better with the perennial Country station in Williamsport which has been cleaning Clear Channel's format clock for years.

Same theory behind the purchase of WSPI 99.7 in Mount Carmel -- to help fill in a listener hole for their 'Variety' station in that same Williamsport (also one channel away).

I don't know if they've also bought the roadside billboards in between Mount Carmel and Williamsport. I don't see how they could have passed up that opportunity.
