Mr. Magic started at WBLS on July 24, 1982. He did the Friday/Saturday overnight and his big show was on Saturday nights from 8 to Midnight. He stayed until well into 1989. The only thing that Mr. Magic is known for is that he played Hip Hop on the radio in NYC long before it was the "in" thing. Long before Hot 97 became the Hip Hop radio station. He, more or less, introduced the music form to NYC. In fact, in 1996, Magic went to work at Hot 97 doing a Sunday morning show there. Then in 1997, he took over the Sunday night Classic Showcase, staying there until sometime in 2003. He was a major influence on New York radio and on a musical form that has since worked its way into mainstream life.
