Flash back to 2006. When the Mets made it to the National League playoffs, WFAN made an exception and allowed Gary Cohen to call two innings of each game on the radio since all games are broadcast on national TV. When it happened, Tom McCarthy, who was, at the time the #2 voice in the radio booth along side Howie Rose, wasn't a bit shy about voicing his displeasure with the situation. He voiced the displeasure on WFAN when Mike Francesa and Chris Russo interviewed him prior to Game 1 of the NLCS against St. Louis.

Today, I flipped on WPHT in the car to listen to the Phils' playoff game since I get 1210 very clearly here in Middlesex County, N.J., and what do you know -- there was the very same Tom McCarthy doing play-by-play after spending the year as lead play-by-play man on TV (following Harry Kalas's death). I believe he and one other from the TV side will be doing the third, fourth, and fifth innings on the radio.

Not sure whose decision this was — if it was management, fine — but it was nonetheless very ironic given McCarthy's displeasure when it was Cohen coming back on to the radio for the playoffs.

That said, McCarthy's voice is one that I miss tremendously as a Mets fan. I am very happy he's doing so well with the Phillies.
