>>I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that in 1973, the Mets were on both network tv and local tv (channel 9 WOR-TV) during the playoffs, but only on network tv during the world series. >>
That also was the case from 1976-'81 when the Yankees made the playoffs five times in six years as I recall. That included the memorable call of Chris Chambliss hitting the home run that won the AL Pennant in 1976 for the Yanks in the first season of what was then the "new" Yankee Stadium. This also was the case in 1980 with the Phillies, in fact, there are clips of WPHL-TV's broadcast of Game 5 of Phillies-Astros on You Tube (link to that below).
That rule was changed in 1982 after the Braves won the NL West and because of their games being on a superstation in WTBS (as it was called then), Major League Baseball would not permit the Braves to do their own local broadcast of the Braves-Cardinals NLCS that year, which led to the end of that.
Speaking of the Phillies, Harry Kalas last year wound up calling on radio as I recall the game that clinched the NL East in addition World Series clincher, of which there is a video of his call that has been replayed countless times since his death earlier this year. Harry did last year the same thing Tom McCarthy is doing now.
