Click below for the aircheck of the switch at 96.3. It includes last eight minutes (or so) of WQXR and the beginning of WCAA.

A couple of editorial comments...

I thought WQXR did a dignified and appropriate ending of its time at 96.3. The final hour featured its various on air staff playing some of their favorite pieces and saying good bye. The final moments included historical references and a nice send off acknowledgement to the NY Times.

WCAA wasted no time postioning itself. Aside from the change in music, the processing change was amazing. It went from the quiet dynamic range of classical programming to the highly compressed sound of hot, current hit music programming.

I have to say... this was about the most dramatic over air shift of one format to another I've ever heard. The WQXR/Classical music listener was hit with an audio tsunami ("meet me at the hotel room"). WCAA wasted no time with settling in at 96.3.

This link is mp3. You need a high speed connection. If you don't have one, look for a post below this one under my name. It is posted in Real Audio format for those with slow connections.
