The same has been true with traditional jazz. WRVR, the area's last commercial station playing it, bit the dust many moons ago. Noncommercial WBGO has done a fine job with the genre, but once again their signal is not the greatest. Hopefully the planned move of their transmitter to Manhattan will help most areas that are having problems receiving them.
I believe that most jazz fans in the area are grateful that they have WBGO, and am not aware of any outcry for a commercial station.
