Smurfed? Is that a technical term? Hi! Hi! The new WQXR on 105.9 is broadcasting with approximately 1/10th the effective radiated power that the old station did. I actually think the little peanut whistle gets out quite well considering. I experienced the same co channel interference up in the NW corner of Westchester. I think they are hampered by the light processing. I noticed a significant amount of multi path noise this morning on my ride up from the city. When Univision ran the station they had the processing jacked up past the recommended stops. The one thing that does is to mitigate some of the multi path noise. The multi path is still there but it is masked quite a bit by the LOUD signal. I know classical music calls for wide dynamic range but they could turn it up a bit so people can hear the station. They will get it squared away as the engineering team there is one of the most competent in the business.
This FM stuff is for the birds! Remember when FM stood for Forget Money? Dick Burden of WRNW coined that phrase! Old Dick is still at it at 81. If you don't believe it pay him a visit this weekend in the Dorrough Electronics booth at the Audio Engineering Society show at the Javits Center.
See you at the hamfest tomorrow?
