Bob, I've owned a few HD Radios since appoximately 2006. In the time that has passed since I've owned my radios, I had never heard HD encoded audio on 96.3 Mhz in NYC. I've also never heard of anyone, using an analog or digital radio, complaining about the inclusion of an HD encoder on 96.3 Mhz.
As to the current state of WQXR, today, HD1 & HD 2 channels are operating on 105.9 Mhz. I had read elsewhere that an HD encoder was currently operating on 96.3 but as of this morning there is no HD signal on that frequency.
