As expected, 102.7 HD2 has now dropped the "WNEW-FM" format in favor of "Last FM", which bills itself as a place listeners can discover new music. In certain segments, they'll play a cut by a popular artist, and the announcer says, "if you liked that one, maybe you'll like this one", and then they play a selection by a lesser-known artist. Sometimes they drop back to some very old cuts; yesterday they played "Love Me Do" by the Beatles, and a cut from the Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" album. I couldn't figure out how those cuts fit in to what they are trying to accomplish, but overall, it's kind of interesting.
