The names of the four broadcasters vying for the license to broadcast on the extended AM band frequency of 1700 kHz from Rockland County have been revealed.
They are:S & B Broadcasting, which wants to build a station in Stony Point; Talkline, which broadcasts Jewish programming, and hopes to broadcast from Monsey; Polish language broadcaster Polnet, which would like to operate from Haverstraw; and Alexander Broadcasting, owner of WRCR 1300 AM in Spring Valley, which has hopes for a Ramapo location.
The F.C.C. is asking these 4 parties to settle among themselves which one would be the one to prevail, by December 9. If they cannot agree (as seems likely), the frequency will be auctioned. The station ultimately operating on the frequency will likely be the only one from Rockland County that can be widely heard. But it will have an unusual license condition to meet. The broadcaster is obligated to provide coverage in the event of an emergency involving the nearby Indian Point power plant.
Does anyone know anything about S&B broadcasting?
