I agree with the others, the Sure SM7 is an excellent, and forgiving, on air mic. I bought my first SM7 in the early 1980s, preferring it to the large SM5 that was used in the old studio at WNEW-FM. When we went on air with SIBC in 1987 I bought four more and we have used them ever since. Recently we have replaced the thin pop filters with the A7WS close-talk pop filter, with excellent results. For those who haven’t done so with older versions of the SM7, this is worth considering. I have treble flat on the mic switches and instead have a 3dB boost at just over 9kHz for extra clarity and compatibility with vocals on modern recordings.
