Steve Somers had a lot of dropouts on Saturday afternoon's show (10/10/09), his 1st at the new studios. He said that he was "hitting the wrong buttons/switches" & cutting himself off accidentally. I've since heard similar & multiple dropouts on other shows, even in the midst of updates & conversations where you wouldn't think there would be "button pushing". Besides possible wrong "button pushing" by the hosts, makes you wonder if there's a loose connection somewhere in the air studio or control room (headset wire/connection; a bad plug-in/outlet; short-circuiting wire), or erroneous "button-pushing" by someone other than the show host (maybe in the control room). I also saw that the new studios have touch screens to move from caller to caller; they may be used for other functions as well (& errors/bad connections there could possibly contribute to the audio problems).

Over the past few years, it would be normal to hear audio dropouts while there were repairs/adjustments occuring at the transmitter (I'd assume most of these were for HD equipment; could be other things, too).

All speculation on my part.
