Thanks, Bob. I never drew the distinction between pop and rock on those songs. I considered them Top 40, as our main competitor at the time WABC would have played them all. Reverse crossovers, if you will. We tested the ones we thought might work on WHN. We added the ones that research showed WHN listeners thought fit the station's format. I never thought radio was supposed to follow the charts; I thought the charts were supposed to reflect what radio played. Local artists like Paul Evans and Robert Gordon charted Country only because their songs were #1 on WHN; no other Country stations followed us on them. On the other hand, in the 70s, WABC did follow WHN on a few Country hits that sold a lot of singles when Rick Sklar was basing adds on store reports.
