Bobby and others...I'm sorry to report that Charles Green died a couple years ago. I saw an obituary for him in the Star Ledger, which ran a few weeks after he'd died, in Virginia or N. Carolina.
I hired Charlie as our afternoon newsman at WERA in Plainfield back around 1977-'78. He was looking for a gig as his group battled for WNJR's license. While with us, he also did weekend news on WKTU. A great guy, with terrific stories about some of R&B's biggest stars. I always got comments from listeners that he sounded great on our little Central Jersey station...which he always did, of course.
When he left WERA, he went to WIGO in Atlanta as ops mgr...then on to Norfolk (I'm thinking it was WOWI). We lost touch sometime in the mid-80's.
Let me also add my condolences on Hank Spann's loss. He was one of the many stars on WWRL. The Big 'RL, and WNJR were a big part of my listening habits back then...and the place where I was first able to hear so much music you didn't get on the Top 40 stations.
