Soupy was not just an entertainer for kids, although that's what we primarily remember. An earlier version of his TV show, which I believed was broadcast at night, featured incredibly great musicians, such as guitarist Joe Messina, who later became a member of Motown's Funk Brothers and well-known guests such as Miles Davis and Frank Sinatra.

It's too bad Soupy wasn't able to translate this aspect of his career into his radio show.

I saw Soupy about five years ago at a Vivino Brothers concert, which included another TV host, "Uncle Floyd" Vivino along with Max Weinberg Band members Jimmy and Jerry Vivino. He was walking with a cane and slightly disabled, but still "with it."
