That may be... but my point was that it wasn't just me who thought the show wasn't funny (as you implied in your last post to which I was responding). I have two pretty smart radio guys who agreed with me. What else they liked or didn't like isn't relevant to that.
>>>You're comparing apples to oranges. <<<
How so? Soupy's ratings were mediocre at best. He was on the same station as the other shows and had a big lead in from Imus and, presumably a chance to pick up listeners to Stern before he came on. That's a great place to be... sandwiched between two big shows.
>>>25-54 was heading in the right direction until the disastrous decision to fire Stern.<<<
That's fair... but it was Stern who was responsible for that.
>>>I have never thought that hiring Soupy was anything but a smart move. <<<
That's fair too. We just disagree.
>>>Now, hiring Jack Spector to do a hybrid music/sports talk show...now that was a mistake.<<<
I thought a sports show was a good idea. It was an evening show on an AM radio station that was talking during the day and sports hits the right demos. The problem was Jack (and I was a big fan of his DJ'ing). He just didn't do a great sports show and I don't think the audience took him seriously (former DJ, etc).
>>> Jack was a true pro and tried to make it work, but I should never have put him in that situation. There was nobody to blame but me for that one.<<<
But the concept of an evening sports show was indeed a good idea.
