Allan,

I agree with your assessment of the Soupy Sales show on 66 WNBC-AM Radio. It just did not work well with the Imus and Stern shows. I preferred the Johnny Dark, Allen Beebe and Frank Reed shows in the music format that existed in this time period, prior to the addition of the Soupy Sales show, to 66 WNBC-AM Radio. I was a NYC police officer. Back in 1985, the patrol cars only had AM radios. I used to listen to WNBC from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, daily. I would listen during working hours and to Howard, while at home. When Soupy replaced the music format, I stopped listening to 66 WNBC-AM Radio, while he was on the air. I started bringing an FM radio to work, to listen to music. I just didn't care for Soupy's show. I used to watch him on WNEW-TV. I guess I just expected more of Soupy.

One of my lasting memories of Soupy Sales was his refusal to call in or attend the last broadcast day of 66 WNBC-AM Radio, in 1988. He turned on Ray because he didn't leave with him. HOW SELFISH OF SOUPY!!!

Dale Parsons may have forgotten some of the pointed exchanges Soupy had with Howard Stern, but I remember one where he kept repeating over and over that he was number 1 in the cars!!! During mid-day hours while most people were working???

Soupy just did NOT fit there. If Soupy was doing so well at 66 WNBC-AM Radio, why didn't NBC management want to renew his contract???

Rest In Peace Soupy. Lets not rewrite his job performance with exaggerations after he has past away.
