I thought Big Jay made a good point on the Sales show, it was too long. Way too long. Two hours tightly produced might have worked but ultimately Sales was a fish out of water between those two (Imus and Stern).

As far as Jack goes, he was running a 70's style sports show in the mid 80's. Jack read the sports section of the daily papers, SI and the Sporting News, and that was it. He knew nothing about hockey (hockey fans are really into the sport) had barely a passing knowledge of basketball and football, good enough for bar room talk but not for a 5 hour radio show. By the mid 80's the sports culture in the US was full of "professional sports fans", people who followed their sport(s) night and day. The era of tell about your career slugger, or how do you think the Yanks will do this year was coming to an end. The fan wanted more and Jack couldn't give it to them. Funny thhing about all this, Art Rust on WABC was worse but covered himself better by having a constant flow of guests who helped disguise the fact that he knew next to nothing.

Hey let's end this with a thank you for all the great times Soupy gave us as kids. He was one of a kind.
