Scott Shannon's Announcements for Sean Hannity

About a year ago I wrote that Scott Shannon shouldn't act as Sean Hannity's announcer since Scott shouldn't be so closely associated with an extreme political program. Many disagreed with me at the time.

Today, I heard Scott announce "This is the Stop Obama Express!" as he introduced Sean Hannity. Don't you think Scott is now going too far? Will he read anything put in front of him?

This is, in effect, Scott Shannon aligning himself with those who hopes Mr. Obama gets stopped, has an unsuccessful presidency.

First, this is illogical from a radio point of view. Scott has made a very good living broadcasting to New Jersey soccer moms... one of Mr. Obama's biggest constituancies in one of the bluest states in the nation. If I were the host of a country morning show in Utah or Idaho I wouldn't want the public to know I'm a liberal-leaning Democrat. I'd avoid doing any announcements for a controversial political radio host.

If Scott were friends with Ed Schultz or Randi Rhodes, it wouldn't be right to do "Stop Bush Express" announcements during the past administration, either. It's one thing if he's Sean's friend for him to say "Get ready for the Sean Hannity Show!" or "Here comes some great radio with Sean Hannity!" But he should NOT endorse any specific political points of view if he's doing a music-intensive adult contemporary morning show and he has such an easily-identified voice.
