Hello all...
Below is more technical information on what is happening with the WFUV tower. I thought I'd post this here, since people seem to be interested.
WFUV is replacing its current antenna with a new antenna. Our auxiliary antenna will remain untouched. We expect the new antenna to improve reception in much of our listening area, but especially in the areas west and south-west of our transmitter site.
The tower work is expected to start on November 5th and continue weekdays through November 18th from approximately 8am to 4pm. Any inclement weather days may add days to the project.
On weekdays, from approximately 8a-4p, WFUV's main transmitter will be off the air, this includes the main analog FM signal and all the digital signals (HD1, HD2 and HD3). During this time, we will broadcast all programming via WFUV's analog FM only Booster transmitter, which is now licensed as an auxiliary site (it covers the West Side of Manhattan and nearby parts of Queens and New Jersey) and via the web at wfuv.org.
On weekdays, from approximately 4p-8a, all weekend long and during inclement weather days when tower work cannot be done, WFUV's main transmitter system will be on the air via the auxiliary antenna, broadcasting to all of our coverage area. The main analog FM signal and all the digital signals (HD1, HD2 and HD3) will return. During this time we will broadcast all programming via the auxiliary antenna, the analog FM only Booster antenna (which covers the West Side of Manhattan and nearby parts of Queens and New Jersey) and to the web at wfuv.org. Basically, it will be business as usual.
We are providing updates with pictures (when available) via Facebook to keep listeners up to date with the latest info.
