The satellite radio company has trimmed its losses over the past year, without much of a change in the number of subscribers, according to a financial report out today. It is close to breaking even. There are 2% less subscribers than a year ago, but a gain of about 100,000 since the last quarter.
Apparently the merger between the satellite radio companies made it possible for expenses to be sharply reduced. It also made it easier to implement a price increase earlier this year.
I believe satellite radio is still reasonable compared with the costly data plans required to receive online radio in a vehicle. Sure, many people already have smartphones with data plans that they can use in their cars to stream audio. But most do not.
