As a kid I noticed that on the Farmington CT station.
Has anyone checked to see if 770 WABC also comes in repectably well on 1540 near their Lobdi tower? The so-called ground erosion may have changed that reception over the years. For a while it was a goofy treat to punch up 1540 and hear 77.

You're referring to the 2nd harmonic. 50 kw. stations must keep their harmonics to less than 80db. below the carrier. Normally, that's not a problem. Sometimes, even a nearly perfect signal, radiated from a station's tower, can have harmonics added in the field due to re-radiation from structures or wires with non-linear characteristics. Even if WABC radiates a perfect signal, you may still receive harmonics.
