We all cite the many alternatives out there (Ipods, internet, smart phones) as contributing to the shift from radio. But perhaps (and this is just speculation) maybe the biggest change has resulted from the advent of cable TV, because cable could niche in a way that broadcast TV (for that matter) and radio could not. Remember that when Z-100 began, they had no afternoon news. Also consider the community channels on cable (public access). How many people watch them?
