What you're missing is the point that radio can not directly compete against niche media by programming the same content. Only in special circumstances can radio provide data you can see on the web, your phone and your cable. This is because the signals are too strong, and a person living in Great Neck doesn't want to sit through the results of the Port Jefferson schoolboard election. Now, someone in his hamlet or village can go to the board of elections website or look at the crawl on theircable without having to weigh through info about which he couldn't care less. If the FM dial were filled with nothing but LP stations, maybe you'd have a stronger argument.
